A more fleshed out version of Nightfall has been co-authored with Robert Silverberg. Most of Asimov’s popularized science books explain scientific concepts in a historical way, going as far back note possible to a time when the science in question was at its simplest stage. Just as I get into them, they end. Acir know exactly what is going to happen, so they should be able to prepare for this darkness. Some of the people should have the hint of reason not to go insane from an eclipse, preserving knowledge.

Even if this concept worked, and i see the beauty and terror of all mankind experiencing night and a sky of stars for the first time, that wouldn’t make too much of a story, and the events and characters built around the idea have no meat either.

Society has only recently advanced to the point where it is able to excavate the ruins of prior nightfalls and predict the coming nightfall. To the asinov scientific mind, unknown phenomena ca be a source of plentiful pitfalls and problems. This makes us see how ignorant we can be in such situations but we have nothing to do about it. We are plunged into an alien world where the concept of night does not exist. It wouldn’t get enough heat and light, and if it rotated there would be total Darkness half of each day.


I really think it is really hard for a writer to flex the scientific reality as we know into something this far away asiomv it, ignore the common knowledge of reality and persuade the readers in doing so. I thought I knew how the story would go but was pleasantly surprised throughout.
