Even though the novel Friday Night Lights had many weaknesses, it still was one of my favorite books. I had over leather jackets, and probably close to pairs of leather pants. Sports appeal to our basest instincts, to identify with a group and pit b.g.bissinger against “not-us”, whoever that might be. Friday Night Lights is an insightful and thrilling book because of its emotionally moving story, with a flowing plot line, and stimulating characters.
Odessa was noght a downturn in the oil boom-and-bust cycle. If that seems crazy to you, you may be persuaded otherwise after reading this book.
If you saw this year’s Super Bowl, you know how that worked out. Boobie Miles played football at Ranger College, a junior college.

One notefull player is boobie who has a bright future ahead of him, colleges scouting him, great player, and an all around role model. I even spent my high school prom night at Safeco Field, watching Freddy Garcia pitch a great game against the Yankees who he’d eventually join, years later, sigh I didn’t grow up in frivay football-watching family.
This is a fantastic book. They lighst hit in the head with this concept over and over again as very little concern is shown for their academic progress.
Pathetic in the sense of pathos–I feel terrible for just about everyone in this story. Did [I] want them to trust me?
It follows the stories of players for the team, kights and past, as well as a look at some of the opposition, the events surrounding the season, the history and economics of the town, and finds a microcosm of the larger world.
When it comes time to play the game, we are a part of it. High School Football in Texas is completely different than anywhere else in America.
Now a major motion picture starring Billy Bob Thorton. Odessa had gone through h.g.nissinger ridiculous amount of change in the h.g.bissnger going from a place where anything was possible to a place where nothing was certain and everything was finite. Book Review: Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger
livhts The book also describes basically almost every single players life story on the Permian Panthers football team. I would recommend this book to anyone who know what the pressure of being the best player on a large team feels like. Permian will have good teams when you and I are dead and gone.
It gives us accounts of their backgrounds, families and their feelings about school, life and playing football. I argue that, even if you are not a sports fan, you will be riveted. Affecting, amusing, alarming, appalling account of the winningest high-school football team in Texas. Permian High School and its football team, the Permian Panthers, had a substantial, rich history of winning in Texas’ 4A and 5A division, having won championships in,and Even though I totally understand why Bissinger uses the distinguished H.
The writer finds negative stories about Texas history and I’m glad I bought this at Half Price Books so the author didn’t make any money off of me.
Bissinger also explores the fates of many famous Permian players and how many of them ended right back in Odessa. They had the players, they had the coach and they had the fans. Meanwhile, Permian was dominating on the football field. My high school football team certainly wasn’t any good, and had I’d known that my college football team Hofstra would eventually a have so many pro-level players, and h.y.bissinger get entirely nixed a few years after I’d h.g.biseinger, I might’ve gone to more than one game.

People were making money left and right in both Midland and Odessa. There where parts of the book that I liked, and parts that I necessarily didn’t like. Failure and success is what makes all of them relatable in some way, because after a loss or a win they either are devastated or overjoyed which is what you can expect from any kid in a sport.

No one touches them, and they read them one by one. There are stories of the school district chartering a jet for fans to travel to away games, of teachers giving the football players test answer sheets along with their test to help keep grades up, of players delaying X-rays on knowingly-fractured bones so as not to become ineligible for playing in the next game, of the near-celebrity status of the stars of the team.
